This is the US Air Force#x2019-s version of the Instrument Procedures Handbook and Instrument Flying Handbook combined. The book makes a great addition to your library. It covers the basics of instrument flight and adds drills the USAF uses to improve precision.

Many of these drills can be modified for general aviation. Government AeroNav charts are closely reviewed as well. This book is a great way to get everything you need to know in a succinct format. br/br/The content is the equivalent of over 250 pages and contains almost 100 pictures.br/br/This instruction implements AFPD 11-2, Flight Rules and Procedures, by providing guidance and procedures for standard Air Force instrument flying.

Since aircraft flight instrumentation and mission objectives are so varied, this instruction is necessarily general regarding equipment and detailed regarding accomplishment of maneuvers. The guidance found in this manual is both technique and procedure. Text depicted in bold italics is procedure. Compliance with procedures is the responsibility of the pilot but their completion may be delegated to other crewmembers in multicrew aircraft.

Individual aircraft flight manuals should provide detailed instructions required for particular aircraft instrumentation or characteristics. This manual, when used with related flight directives and publications, provides adequate guidance for instrument flight under most circumstances, but is not a substitute for sound judgment. Circumstances may require modification of prescribed procedures. Aircrew members charged with the safe operation of United States Air Force aircraft must be knowledgeable of the guidance contained in this manual.

This publication applies to the Air National Guard (ANG) and the Air Force Reserves. This publication is applicable to all USAF aircraft, to include Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAS), unless specifically exempted in the text of the manual. This manual applies to all military, civilian and/or contractor personnel operating USAF aircraft. br/br/Table of Contentsbr/Chapter 1#x2014-BASIC INSTRUMENT FLYINGbr/Chapter 2#x2014-INSTRUMENT FLIGHT MANEUVERSbr/Chapter 3#x2014-NAVIGATION INSTRUMENTSbr/Chapter 4#x2014-NAVIGATION AIDSbr/Chapter 5#x2014-NAVIGATION TECHNIQUES AND PROCEDURESbr/Chapter 6#x2014-PLANNING AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHTbr/Chapter 7#x2014-IFR DEPARTURE PROCEDURES br/Chapter 8#x2014-HOLDINGbr/Chapter 9#x2014-ARRIVALbr/Chapter 10#x2014-HIGH ALTITUDE APPROACHESbr/Chapter 11#x2014-LOW ALTITUDE APPROACHESbr/Chapter 12#x2014-FINAL APPROACHbr/Chapter 13#x2014-LANDING FROM INSTRUMENT APPROACHESbr/Chapter 14#x2014-MISSED APPROACHbr/Chapter 15#x2014-INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION (ICAO) PROCEDURESbr/Chapter 16#x2014-CATEGORY II AND III ILSbr/Attachment 1#x2014-GLOSSARY OF REFERENCES AND SUPPORTING INFORMATION
